The Beescape<\/strong> project is based on a long-term exper\u00adi\u00adment in which the artist explores the pos\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adties of so-called \u201cbee architecture\u201d\u2014structures that emerge as a result of active col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion between a design\u00ader and a bee com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty. Each object begins with a spa\u00adtial design that pro\u00advides a frame\u00adwork in which the bees can con\u00adstruct their own struc\u00adtures. The artist inves\u00adti\u00adgates the \u201curban\u00adism\u201d that bees them\u00adselves plan and build, ask\u00ading: how many \u201ccities\u201d can bees sus\u00adtain? To what extent can they han\u00addle such den\u00adsi\u00adty, com\u00adplex\u00adi\u00adty, or the num\u00adber of hives with\u00adout dis\u00adrupt\u00ading their nat\u00adur\u00adal balance?<\/p>\n

Through col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion with the bees, organ\u00adic, para\u00admet\u00adric archi\u00adtec\u00adture is cre\u00adat\u00aded, result\u00ading in visu\u00adal\u00adly fas\u00adci\u00adnat\u00ading, com\u00adplex\u00adly shaped objects rem\u00adi\u00adnis\u00adcent of Gaud\u00ed\u2019s struc\u00adtur\u00adal log\u00adic and con\u00adtem\u00adpo\u00adrary dig\u00adi\u00adtal mor\u00adpho\u00adgen\u00ade\u00adsis. Each hive is unique, pro\u00adduced through the com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion of the bees\u2019 instinc\u00adtu\u00adal reg\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adi\u00adty and human cura\u00adto\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal inter\u00adven\u00adtion. The artist reg\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly mon\u00adi\u00adtors the con\u00adstruc\u00adtion but does not con\u00adtrol it\u2014he mere\u00adly estab\u00adlish\u00ades the con\u00addi\u00adtions. The project address\u00ades the bal\u00adance between humans and nature, chal\u00adlenges the hier\u00adar\u00adchy of cre\u00adator and mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal, and demon\u00adstrates new ways for art to col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adrate with the liv\u00ading world. It shows that design does not need to define bound\u00adaries but can co-create a space in which trust and coex\u00adis\u00adtence nat\u00adu\u00adral\u00adly develop.<\/p>\n

Seibert\u2019s aim is not to \u201ctame\u201d the bees for artis\u00adtic pur\u00adpos\u00ades, but to find a way to use artis\u00adtic think\u00ading and meth\u00adods to cre\u00adate an envi\u00adron\u00adment that gen\u00aduine\u00adly ben\u00ade\u00adfits the bees. He sees art as a tool to sup\u00adport bio\u00addi\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty and restore bal\u00adance to the landscape.<\/p>\n

Eduard Seib\u00adert<\/strong> is a design\u00ader, bee\u00adkeep\u00ader, and PhD can\u00addi\u00addate at the Fac\u00adul\u00adty of Art and Archi\u00adtec\u00adture, Tech\u00adni\u00adcal Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Liberec. He stud\u00adied archi\u00adtec\u00adture in Liberec and glass at UMPRUM in Rony Plesl\u2019s stu\u00addio and com\u00adplet\u00aded an intern\u00adship at the Roy\u00adal Dan\u00adish Acad\u00ade\u00admy. His work inte\u00adgrates design, archi\u00adtec\u00adture, and ecol\u00ado\u00adgy, and for the past ten years he has been deeply involved in bee\u00adkeep\u00ading, which is also the main sub\u00adject of his doc\u00adtor\u00adal research.<\/p>\n
