Art Week Liberec creates a space for reflection on cultural, social, and environmental topics and strengthens the relationship between art and everyday life. As the only festival of its kind in the Czech Republic, it has been connected with the European Heritage Days from the very beginning, taking advantage of opportunities to include significant architectural landmarks of the region in its program.
The contemporary art festival has been held since 2016 and is one of the most important cultural events in northern Bohemia. Through short-term interventions and exhibitions, it presents current Czech and international art and opens a discussion on important social issues. Its aim is to make contemporary visual art accessible to a wider audience and to encourage civic engagement as well as interest in the future of the region. This is achieved not only through exhibitions with a clear social dimension but also through a rich accompanying program.
Since its inception, Art Week Liberec has taken place at the same time as the European Heritage Days (EHD) and shares with them the key idea – to connect contemporary art with the historical monuments of the city of Liberec and, in some editions, also with landmarks in nearby Zittau.
Opening hours are indicated for each venue. Unless stated otherwise, admission is free. Information about exhibitions, installations, and accompanying programs can be found on the websites artweekliberec.cz, ehd-toffd.eu, on Facebook @ARTWEEKLIBEREC, and on Instagram @artweek_liberec.
